LINDEN, TX Haskell McMillon was born on April 14, 1938 in Quitman, Texas to Marvin and Dorothy McMillon. After a long and courageous battle with heart disease, he died on October 20, 2011 in a Longview hospital surrounded by his family. Haskell graduated from Linden High School in 1956. He was retired from Cass County as a law enforcement officer where he served as Chief Deputy under former Sheriff Bill Dowd and served as Constable of Precinct One. He also retired from Lone Star Steel Company as a plant protection officer. He was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church, Cass County Peace Officers Association, and Texas Rangers Association Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Haskell McMillon, Jr. Mr. McMillon is survived by his wife, Barbara McMillon, of Linden; a sister Viola Ross and husband, Bob, of Van, Texas; two sons, Mark McMillon and wife, Harlene, of Bloomburg, Texas, and Greg McMillon and wife, Terri, of Hughes Springs, Texas. A special niece that he thought of as a daughter, Opie Gaskin, and husband, David, of Wake Village, Texas; six grandchildren, Justin McMillon, Trevor McMillon, Kelsey McMillon, Brittany McMillon, Taylor McMillon and Rebecca McMillon; two great grandchildren, Cole McMillon and Cass McMillon; also, his great niece and namesake Mackenzie Mack Elliott Gaskin and a nephew, Bryan Hensley of Dallas. Pallbearers are Charles McMichael, Roy Barker, Eric Surratt, Ronald R. Watson, Wendell Henderson and H. Allan Pavia. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Elliott, Max Womack, Floyd Kirkland, Gary Stewart, Paul Boone, Ralph Allen, Jerry Anderson and the Law Enforcement Community. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Linden United Methodist Church with the Honorable Don Dowd officiating. Interment will be in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials may be made to the Linden United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 338, Linden, TX 75563 or the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum, P.O. Box 2570, Waco, TX 76702

  5. I always loved Haskell…from talking to him on the square as a kid, to working in the kitchen with him at La Casa De Rosa, to just shootin' the bull with him when I saw him around town. He was a very special person. The whole family is in my thoughts and prayers.

  7. Haskell was such a strong man with such a sweet spirit. I will always remember his laugh, his funny sense of humor, and how much he loved Barbara and his family. Charlotte and I are saying a prayer at bed time for y'all. Love you!!!

  15. "Little Bit" what can we say that hasn't already been said? We loved Haskell and will always cherish our friendship with him and memories. He left a legacy with you and though your heart is brocken, it is also filled with the love that you two shared for a very special 35 years. Frineds are here for you and we all know that Haskell is in heaven sharing stories with Jesus and Bubba! I will give you time then I would like to come visit and go to lunch. HaskellI went to work for Cass County in 1975 and Haskell was Chief Deputy, I started as a dispatcher and worked my way up to a full Deputy under Haskell's leader ship, He taught me how to work cases and do them right but more than that Haskell and I became friends and did a lot of things together setting around his fireplace in winter or what ever spent a lot of hours with him and we just talked, So Barbara I know what it means to have had and lost him he was a very good man who loved his family and his work and I will always miss him
