A Celebration of Life for Mr. Homer Ray “H.R.” Nix, age 93, of Hughes Springs, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Bro. Chris Cates will officiate the service honoring a life well-lived.

Mr. Nix, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. His unwavering work ethic and leadership were evident in his long-standing role as Superintendent of the Maintenance Department at Lone Star Steel, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Nix embraced the simple joys of life. He found solace in casting a line while fishing, sharing stories around the campfire, and getting lost in the pages of a good book. A passionate sports fan, he also found comfort in watching classic western films that reminded him of simpler times. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and friends. Known for his warm heart and magnetic personality, Mr. Nix had an extraordinary ability to connect with people—he truly never met a stranger.

A devoted member of Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Mr. Nix lived his life grounded in faith and guided by compassion for others. His steadfast devotion to his loved ones and his community was a reflection of his strong spiritual foundation.

Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ruby Inez Terry Nix; his son, Mike Nix; his sister, Ruby Fay Sellars; and his brothers, Roger, Butch, and Bruce Nix.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nix; his daughter, Leisa Harrison and husband Danny; his daughter-in-law, Brenda Nix; and his daughters, Julia Wolfswinkel, and Becky Erdek with her husband Dion. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Andrew and Sarah Harrison, Amanda and Jeremy Mehringers, Abby Harrison, Melissa Nix, Robbie and Maegan Nix, Dustin and Jerica Erdek, and Dylan Erdek. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Cooper Nix, Lundy Nix, Jackson Nix, Ella Edge, Cole Edge, Madden Harrison, Macie Harrison, Merritt Harrison, Jordyn Mehringers, Ruby Kate Mehringers, and Bo Mehringers.

Mr. Nix will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Helen Ellison and husband Bernie, and Gail Whitlow, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family and friends of Mr. Nix will forever cherish his unwavering love, steady presence, and the countless joyful memories shared with him. His life was a beautiful reflection of hard work, faith, and the profound impact of genuine connection. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

  3. Candle 3HR Nix was my friend growing up with baseball. He was my friend in life also both at LSS and as a christian. Gave out life saving advice, prayers ( we prayed together. Richard Rainwater and Tony Mathis and I used to meet with him at Burneys Dairy Terry for a corndog..he always picked the tab. We all looked fwd to next one. RIP Homer and God Bless!
