LINDEN Services for J.L. Duck, 79, of Linden, will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 12, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Linden with Bros. Jackie Stanfield and Don Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Duck was born January 5, 1929 in Hughes Springs to Joe W. and Sarah Margaret Walker Duck. He was a retired service station owner, a member of First Baptist Church, Linden, and served in the Army. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Duck, two grandsons, Ryan Hamm and Jim Strickland, his parents and a brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Marla Duck of Linden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Sam Strickland of Linden, and Karen and Steve Hamm of Kildare; three grandchildren and two spouses, Jason and Leanne Strickland of Dayton; Katherine and Ryan Chaffin of Rusk; and Sarah Strickland of Russellville, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Logan Strickland of Dayton, and Sean and Seth Chaffin of Rusk, plus numerous other family members and friends.

He was a retired service station owner, a member of First Baptist Church, Linden, and served in the Army. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Duck, two grandsons, Ryan Hamm and Jim Strickland, his parents and a brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Marla Duck of Linden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Sam Strickland of Linden, and Karen and Steve Hamm of Kildare; three grandchildren and two spouses, Jason and Leanne Strickland of Dayton; Katherine and Ryan Chaffin of Rusk; and Sarah Strickland of Russellville, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Logan Strickland of Dayton, and Sean and Seth Chaffin of Rusk, plus numerous other family members and friends.

To the family of J.L. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a fine man and I always enjoyed spending time at my grandmother's (Leona Rogers) and playing with Karen. You and your family are in my prayers.

J.L. was a man that has been a great infulence on my life–I have known him all of my life, and enjoyed going down to the station with Sleepy and visiting the boys on the bench out front. J.L. was also a kind and wonderful man, and was there for me whenever I had a flat tire, or ran out of gas…He will be greatly Missed!
