July 16, 1922 ~ December 10, 2010
Jack McCain was born in Harris Chapel July 16, 1922 to Joe and Daisy McCain and passed away, Friday, December 10, 2010. He was a U.S. World War II Army Veteran who saw action in the Pacific Theatre. Jack was assigned to the 7th Division, 24th Corps, 184th Regiment. The 184th first battle was at Kiska, on the Aleution Islands, near Alaska. Then to the Marshall Islands, where he was bayoneted and received his first Purple Heart. His regiment then participated in first landings at Leyete in the Philippines and Okinawa, where he received a gunshot wound and his second Purple Heart. He remained in close contact with many of his fellow servicemen he served with and visited them often. He was very proud of his service in the Army. After the war he worked at Lone Star Steel for 35 years, forging the steel that built America, all the while raising two children in Avinger, Texas; a tiny town that he truly loved.
