Services for Jack B. Pedersen, 77, of Hughes Springs will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, Hughes Springs, with Rev. Ralph Hale and Rev. Bluford Weikel officiating. Interment will follow at Hughes Springs Cemetery with Masonic Rites under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home Inc. Jack died Sunday, July 23, 2006 in a Longview hospital. He was born December 5, 1928 in Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents Sig Pedersen and Ruth Barton Pedersen. Jack attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX where he graduated in 1947. Immediately after graduation he went to work for Sheffield Steel in Houston and enlisted in the Marine Reserves serving for two years and then attended U. of H. majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Jack married Nancy Aycock July 2, 1950 in Hughes Springs, Texas. After 27 years of dedicated service at Sheffield Steel he retired and in the fall of 1978 moved to Hughes Springs to make his home for retirement. During his retirement, Jack continued to serve his community as Chairman of the FSA board and at the insistence of W. B. Holsenbake, became a member of the Soil and Water Conservation District serving as chairman for many years. His dedication to the Masonic Lodge was without compromise. He was raised in the Channelview Masonic Lodge starting on Feb. 21, 1953 and received his 32nd degree. On November 4th 1980 Jack transferred his membership to Hughes Springs Masonic Lodge No. 671 and on November 7th 1984 was elected to membership in the Scottish Rite. On July 27, 1964 he became a member of the Channelview Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Stars and later transferred to Hughes Springs Chapter #349. He was also a member of the Hughes Springs Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pedersen of Hughes Springs; son, Ron Pedersen of Houston; daughter, Kathryn Pedersen of Houston; two sisters, Linda Seger of Flint, Michigan and Edith Cooper of Nebraska; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at the funeral home and the family will receive guests after 6 p.m.
