Funeral services for James W. Hatten, 81, of Hughes Springs, will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 5 at First United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs, with the Rev. George M. Hancock, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Hughes Springs. Mr. Hatten died March 31, 2008 at his home in Hughes Springs. Visitation for Mr. Hatten will be Friday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. James William Hatten was born to the parentage of Debron, Sr. and Willie Mae Hatten on March 22, 1927. He was the third of ten children. He graduated in 1948 from Rhoads High School, Daingerfield, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served for 2 years. He worked at Lone Star Steel for 32 1/2 years. James united in marriage to Ouida Carter on July 15, 1954. To this union, 6 children were born. James was employed at Lone Start Steel for over 32 years. He joined Liberty United Methodist Church at an early age. He was a very dedicated church member and served faithfully until his health failed. Preceding him in death were his parents, Debron and Willie Mae Hatten, one brother Bobby O. Hatten, four sisters Ella Mae Hatten, Evelyn Peppers, Elsie Adams, Shirley Johnson, and one daughter Jamie M. Todd. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted family: his wife of 53 years, Ouida Hatten, five children, Burnett Hollis of Houston, TX, Ronald (Debra) Hatten of Hughes Springs, TX, Patsy (Michael) Taylor of Hughes Springs, TX, Roderick Hatten of Daingerfield, TX, Phyllis Johnson of Hughes Springs, TX, two adopted children Rodrick Hatten and Shatrice Hatten of Hughes Springs, TX, two foster children Aerial Johnson of Houston, TX and Anson Johnson of Daingerfield, TX, one son-in-law, Paul A. Todd, Sr., three brothers Debron Jr. (Helen) Hatten, Morris (Priscilla) Hatten, Carl (Bessie) Hatten, one sister, Mary (Vernice) Hill, three sisters-in-law, Avalene Hatten, Vivian (Wendell) Betts, Lillian Grimes, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
