James Wesley Royal, 76, affectionately known as “Wes”, was born on June 30, 1946, in Daingerfield, TX to the late Ben and Lucille Epps Royal. He passed away on August 14, 2022 in North Little Rock, AR.
“Wes” accepted Christ at an early age at the New Hope Baptist Church in Daingerfield, TX. He attended J.J. Rhoads High School in Daingerfield, TX. He attended Bishop College in Dallas, TX prior to enlisting in the armed forces. He served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He also fought in the Vietnam War. Msgt Royal retired after 22 years of service in 1988 in Dover, Delaware. Following retirement from the armed forces, he worked for Dupont until his final retirement.
In 1973, he married Dorothy Mae Singleton and to this union his only child, a son, Kijana J. Royal, Sr. was born.
“Wes” was a music enthusiast and enjoyed listening to all genres of music, his favorite being jazz. He had a love for fast cars. He was very passionate about ancestry research and helped many people over the years discover their lineage. He also loved travelling.
“Wes” was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Lucille Epps Royal; his brothers: Luther “L.W.” Royal, Loyce “Lane” Royal, and Royce Wayne Royal; and his granddaughter Taylor Latreece Royal. He is survived by his son Kijana (Pamela) Royal, Sr.; his sisters: Bennie (Arthur) Royal Smith, Clemuel Royal Forte, Deborah Royal Traylor, and Diann Royal Williams; grandchildren: Tierra (Kevin) Richardson, Kijana Royal, II, Christian Royal, Parker Royal, and Payton Royal; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Local services for Mr. Royal will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 17, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church in Daingerfield. Burial will follow at Daingerfield Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
Rest well, my brother. You were a rock in the Royal family — a true man in every sense of the word. You touched so many lives, and people were blessed to know you. Thanks for the memories and the laughter. You ran your race well and the Master has rewarded you with His sweet rest.
