In Loving Memory of Emma Jane Bailey Sullivan
Today we celebrate the life of Emma Jane Bailey Sullivan—a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, faithful Christian, and treasured friend.
Jane passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, kindness, faith, and service. She lived a life that quietly but profoundly impacted everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on February 4, 1936, in Karnack, Texas, to Richard Neal Bailey and Susan Faye Pyland Bailey, Jane’s East Texas upbringing shaped the values she carried throughout her life: humility, hard work, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to family and faith.
In 1958, she married Bobby Glen Sullivan in Marshall, Texas, and, soon after, their family began to grow, raising two sons, Brent and Keith.
Teaching was more than a profession—it was a calling. For forty-five years, from 1959 until her retirement in 2004, Jane taught elementary school in Texas and Louisiana. Thousands of children entered her classroom, where they found not only an educator but someone who believed in them, encouraged them, and helped them discover their potential. The influence of a great teacher reaches far beyond the classroom, and her impact will continue through the many lives she helped shape.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs and faithfully served in the Order of the Eastern Star for more than sixty years through the Hughes Springs and Daingerfield Chapters. Her life reflected the values she held dear—faith, service, friendship, and generosity.
While she found fulfillment in teaching and serving others, nothing brought Jane greater joy than her family. Retirement allowed her to spend precious time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, creating memories around family dinners, holidays, and life’s everyday moments. Those simple times became her greatest treasures.
Jane is lovingly remembered by her sons, Brent Sullivan and Keith Sullivan and his wife Kathy; her grandchildren, Kevin Meadows and his wife Allison, Brooke Sullivan, and Grant Sullivan; and her cherished great-grandchild, Briar Meadows.
Her family, friends, former students, and church community will remember her for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, steadfast faith, and generous heart. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.
Please make donations to the First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs, or the Daingerfield Eastern Star Chapter.
