August 12, 1918 ~ December 3, 2011
Jewel Marie Bowden was born August 12, 1918 and died on December 3, 2011 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 59 years, Travis Bowden. Jewel was born and raised in Jefferson, Texas, but after marrying in 1941, she spent the rest of her time in Linden, Texas where she and Travis raised two daughters. Jewel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linden and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School class. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Before she got sick, she loved cooking for them and her specialties such as oyster dressing, meat loaf, chicken spaghetti and her pound cake will be missed by all. Jewel is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Theresa and Ron Cope of Wake Village and Drs. Marsha and Tom Savage of Mantrea, California; one grandson, Jason Michael Cope of Las Vegas, Nevada; one nephew, Louis Earl (Pete) Leslie of Shreveport, Louisiana and one niece, Mary Jane Bentley of Bastrop, Louisiana. Graveside services for Mrs. Bowden will be at 2:00pm, Tuesday December 6, 2011 in Linden Cemetery with Bro. Jackie Stanfield officiating. Those wishing to memorialize Mrs. Bowden may make contributions to the Linden Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 863, Linden, TX 75563 or Choir Fund of First Baptist Church P.O. Box 179, Linden, TX 75563.

Theresa and Marsha,I am so sorry about Mrs. Bowden passing away even though we knew this was coming. Its never easy as I know how it feels. She will always be a very special lady in my heart and mind. She was always very kind to me and for that I will always be grateful. My thoughts and prayers as well as my love is with you now. Wish we could be there in person for you.
Marsha and Teresa,Sorry to hear about your Mother. She was a dear friend of my Mother, Ida Max. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Theresa and Jason, I'm very sorry for the passing for your mother and grandmother. I will always remember the time she went with us to eat at Luby's for Thanksgiving. I'm praying for you both and keep the good memories in your mind.
My love goes out to the family. Aunt Jewel will be missed by many in the family! Love to you all.
My heart is truly broken this morning and I really don't know how to feel. For all my 34 years, you were always there, being the best Grandmother one could hope to have. You raised two beautiful girls, one who turned out to be my Mom (the best Mom in the world – Theresa Cope) and the other, my wonderful Aunt Marsha. I will always cherish the many, many memories of all the special times we had being together. You were always the glue that held our family together…you were the Queen Mother (that's why I always called you Mother instead of Grandmother). I love you more than you will ever know, and appreciate everything…all the MANY things you've done for me…and I'll be missing you until I see you again one day. You always told me "don't ever forget Mother!"…well, I never EVER will forget you and I'll always love you.
God took another angel home but he left behind her beautiful daughter to carry on her legacy. Ms. Cope has been my teacher and my friend and it is so obvious that she comes from a loving and kind family. I know that the days ahead will be tough but at least knowing that she is with your dad now and that she is so very proud of the ones that she left behind, may this bring peace to your hearts. God bless you and know that you are in my prayers.
Our thoughts and prayers to the family. May you remember sweet times and rejoice in a life well lived.
Marsha Kay and Theresa, I was so saddened to learn of Jewels' passing. I loved seeing her at our Bowden reunions! Laughter was bountiful when you got the Bowden clan together. I do hope that God will sustain you in this great loss. Her sister was an angel to my sweet Mother. Three great women will be truly missed, always doing for themselves and others. Very generous hearts, they were!! Love, I am praying for you to have the strength to sustain this great loss of your mom. Rely on God and he'll carry you through the good and bad times. Would love to see you both. Mary Janet

I have many memories of Aunt Jewel. I especially will remember the times I took her to Longview to the doctor after I moved back home to Linden. And the times she'd call to ask me to go get gas in her car. I was good to get to know her better than I had ever known her. I'm so glad the she and Uncle Travis will be together again because I know how much they loved each other. May they be happy as they enjoy their eternal life.
So sorry for your family's loss. I know God is with you all as you go through this trying time.
