Jewel Marie Bowden was born August 12, 1918 and died on December 3, 2011 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 59 years, Travis Bowden. Jewel was born and raised in Jefferson, Texas, but after marrying in 1941, she spent the rest of her time in Linden, Texas where she and Travis raised two daughters. Jewel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linden and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School class. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Before she got sick, she loved cooking for them and her specialties such as oyster dressing, meat loaf, chicken spaghetti and her pound cake will be missed by all. Jewel is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Theresa and Ron Cope of Wake Village and Drs. Marsha and Tom Savage of Mantrea, California; one grandson, Jason Michael Cope of Las Vegas, Nevada; one nephew, Louis Earl (Pete) Leslie of Shreveport, Louisiana and one niece, Mary Jane Bentley of Bastrop, Louisiana. Graveside services for Mrs. Bowden will be at 2:00pm, Tuesday December 6, 2011 in Linden Cemetery with Bro. Jackie Stanfield officiating.
