Jewel Faye Massey, 80, of Bandera, Texas, formerly of Atlanta, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 15, 2009. Jewel Faye was born June 27, 1929 in Linden to Howard and Ophelia Fitts. She had previously lived for several years in Atlanta, Texas and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linden. She loved life in the country where she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, raising longhorn cattle, feeding the deer, working in her flower garden and most of all, caring for her beloved dogs, Bitzy and Bentley and her cat, Sassy. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Manal of Bandera, two granddaughters, Brittany Malone of Frisco and Hana Manal of Bandera; six grandsons, Dr. Steven O. Simmons, Jr. of North Carolina, William Simmons, Dexter Simmons, Clark Simmons and Ashley Simmons, all from Orange, Texas, and USMC Staff Sargeant Davis L. Simmons, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan; plus eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Euna Kirk of Karnack and Margel Neville of Linden, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Fitts of Atlanta, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Jewel Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Davis L. Massey, both parents, her son, Steven O. Simmons, Sr., her grandson, Todd Manal, and five brothers, Lloyd Fitts, Grady Fitts, Otis Fitts, Chester Fitts and George Weldon Fitts. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 22, 2009 in the Chapel of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home, Inc., in Linden. Burial will follow in Linden Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
