LINDEN Graveside services for James Robert "Jimmy" Barker, 84, of Linden will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 25, 2007 at Center Grove Cemetery. Mr. Barker was born January 19, 1923 in Linden and died May 22, 2007 in a Texarkana nursing home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St. in Linden. Mr. Barker was retired from Brown and Root, worked as a surveyor, was a Coast Guard veteran from World War II, and a Baptist. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Lee Ann Barker, of Wake Village; and Roy and Donese Barker of Linden; two daughters, Dr. Shirley Strange-Allen of Fredericksburg, VA; and Angie Barker Petty of North Carolina; one sister, Barbara Hyman of Hopewell Junction, NY; a sister-in-law, Bennie Barker of Plano; a special nephew and wife, Steve and Gail Dorgan of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Miranda Coleman, Stephanie Johnson, James Branch, Jacob Barker, Jessica Smallwood, Chris Barker, and Grayson Porter; one great granddaughter, Madeline Smallwood; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Anderson Barker; his parents, Fred and Jessie Knight Barker, Sr.; two brothers, Jack and Fred Barker and a sister, Nay Barker.

  11. For a short period of time my husband, children and I had the distinct pleasure of attending church with Mr. Jimmy. My children still think of Mr. Jimmy and remember him with a smile.
