Joe Mayerchak

Joe Mayerchak, of Hughes Springs, Texas, passed away July 31, 2026.  He was born October 16, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania.  In addition to his parents, George and Helen, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and George Jr; two sisters, Helen Mann and Betty Buckley; and former-wife Betty (Darnell) Mayerchak.

He is survived by his current-wife Rita (Wallace) Mayerchak; one brother, John and his wife Winnie; one son, Joe Mayerchak Jr.; two daughters, Catherine Senich and Donna Mayerchak; one grandson, Tyler Mayerchak, one son-in-law, Robert Senich; one step-son, Marty Wallace and his wife Jasmine; two step-granddaughters, Olivia and Mia Wallace; one step-grandson, J.D. Wallace, and many other family members who will sadly miss him.

Joe was affectionately known as Poppy Joe to his Wallace family and just Dad to his Mayerchak family.  He was always quick with a story or two or three about growing up in Kentucky or living in New Mexico.  Joe played and was co-captain of the Lynch (Kentucky) High School football team which went undefeated.  Joe also attended and played football at Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  His high school and college football teammates and coaches were his lifelong friends.  He outlived all of them!

He loved doing little woodworking projects and fixing things around the house.  Joe enjoyed hunting antiques; in particular, collecting Depression Era Green Glass made with Uranium, and was eager to show all how it emitted a neon glow under a black light.

Joe really enjoyed making people laugh and spending time with his family.  He also loved living in the piney woods of East Texas.  He was a kind soul and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.  At the family’s request there will be no service at this time.
