HUGHES SPRINGS-Funeral services for John B. Whitson, 74, of Daingerfield, will be at 10 A.M., Wednesday, June 11, at Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Butch Shipp officiating. Burial will be in Veal Switch Cemetery near Hughes Springs under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. of Hughes Springs. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Whitson died Saturday, June 7 at his home in Daingerfield. He was born May 28, 1934 in Brush Creek Township, North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Maude Robinson Whitson. He is survived by three daughters & sons-in-law Sandra and Tommy Young of Collierville, TN; Robin and James Hurlburt of White Oak, and Kimberly and James Dufner of Hughes Springs; two sisters Maxine Presley and Jean Whitson; two brothers Ted Whitson, all of Winter Park FL and Windell Whitson of Florida; seven grandchildren Jennifer Harvey and husband Benjamin; Miranda Young, Brandon Hurlburt, Becky and husband Jeremiah Williams, and Kristen , James III, and Jonathan Dufner; and two great granddaughters Alyssa and Reagan Harvey, and numerous nieces and nephews. We also enjoyed his visits to florida. Ted, Maxine, Jean and myself send the family all of our love and hope that his rest will be short and the lord will return soon to establish his kingdom.   5. I am sorry to hear about John. I worked with him at the Roofing Plant for about 8 years and I really thought a lot of him. I made him a Birthday cake one year. We use to talk and laugh a lot. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I am sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

  6. John hired me 25 years ago this October.At first he kept me back from advancing to other jobs. He always said "I have bigger plans for you Micah". He made me a supervisor. A job that I still hold today. He will always be like a second father to me in my heart.
