John Organ

Funeral services for Mr. John Organ, 88, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. A private burial will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

John (Tommy) Organ was born in Houston, Texas to parents Charles Organ and Mollie Huddleston.   He was called Tommy by his family and friends.

After his mother died, he was raised by his maternal grandfather, James Huddleston.

In June 1955 he married Gladys Trahan.  They were both 16 years old, and together  they raised 4 children.

On November 15, 1962, Tommy and Gladys were both saved and baptized in a little church in Seabrook, Texas.    This was a defining moment in their lives, and Tommy  boldly shared his faith with friends and family through the years.

Wherever they lived, they always joined a local church and were active members there.  He read his Bible every night, without fail, no matter where he was.

They enjoyed camping and getting together with family and friends.  The family traveled quite a bit to relocate due to his job.   Later, they would settle in Deweyville, Texas,  where he and Gladys built a house on the Sabine River.

It was there that Tommy built a shrimp boat from steel in his back yard. He worked on this boat in  his spare time for about 10 years, while he  worked full time.   He named the boat after Gladys.

Tommy was a member of the Boilermaker union for many years;  he also had skills in construction supervision and was sought by several companies because of his integrity; he was an honest man, a  man of his word.

After he retired, he bought a cattle ranch in Lone Star  which they named Heavenly Valley Ranch. They would live out their remaining years there.  He loved his cows and loved to build things.

Tommy and Gladys loved spending time with their children and grandchildren, and other family members, playing games- dominoes, cards, washers, it didn’t  matter what the game was.

He loved  to help people; he would do anything he could to help someone else; he was very generous and hard-working.   He was a faithful husband and loving father, and a faithful witness for Christ.  He was a  member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Ore City.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

He  is survived by his  wife and best friend of 71 years, Gladys Organ; 4 children, Melba Hart and husband Floyd, John Organ and wife Kary; Carolyn Thornton and husband Dwayne; and Thomas Organ. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, along with a number of other relatives and friends.
