Judy Lee Maloney passed from this life into the arms of her Savior early on the morning of Saturday, June 7, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas, at the age of 83. Judy was born June 19, 1941, in Tyler, Texas, to parents Cruse L. and Vera Wooten Runnels, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her brother, Jack Runnels.
Judy is survived by her husband of 65 years Curtis “Buster” Maloney, sister Jill Wendling, children Rhonda Allums (wife of Will), Lee Ann Fant (wife of John) and Curtis Maloney (husband of Jennifer). Additional surviving family include grandchildren Chrissy Berry, Randi Peterson, Brian Ross, Daniel Ross, Whitney Skinner and Kathryn Burkhalter, along with their spouses and great-grandchildren Alex, Cooper, Conner, Journey, Cadence, Kynlee, Stellar, Anslee, Brett, Rev, Caroline, Brody, Asher, Camden, Clara, Brooks and Daniel Brian, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Judy’s family would also like to recognize the caregivers who helped make her final years more comfortable and pleasant and became honorary family members: Ina Segura, Charlotte Martin, Katelyn Mosley, Pricilla Sullivan and Chryn Abraham.
A 1959 graduate of Spring High School in Spring, Texas, Judy was a vibrant and beloved member of every community she joined. Shortly after marrying and starting their family, she and Buster moved to Linden in the late 1960s and put down roots in the East Texas community that continue to bear fruit through their children and their respective families. A tirelessly devoted matriarch, Judy loved the company of her friends and family, and her home served as a gathering place for her children’s friends and, later, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. Renowned among family for her ability to hold several conversations at once, Judy as a host never left her guests feeling bored, left out or hungry. She was friendly, open, and welcoming of everyone and cared deeply for others, a trait that became plainly evident to all she met.
