Larry Lattimore
August 20, 1931 ~ February 19, 2018
Larry Franklin Lattimore, 86, son of the late Dixie Daniel Lattimore and Theresa Tugwell Lattimore, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
A Celebration of Larry’s life will held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, in the First United Methodist Church Faith Center with the Rev. David Williamson and Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in Coffeeville Cemetery immediately following the service, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City.
The family will receive friends form 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the Methodist Church Faith Center.
Larry was born August 20, 1931, to Dixie Daniel Lattimore and Theresa Tugwell Lattimore in Dawson County, Lamesa TX. He attended Lamesa schools and was presented the Merit Awards for football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation in 1950, Larry attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship until drafted by the US Military in July of 1951. During his Naval service from 1951-1955, he was an Aircraft Engine Mechanic and was presented the National Defense Service Award and Good Conduct Medal.
Upon arriving in East Texas in 1955, Larry met the “love of his life”, Dora Jean Morgan and they were married in 1956. He worked for Lone Star Steel until his appointment to serve as the US Postmaster of Ore City on April 14, 1967. He served the citizens of Ore City many years before his retirement in 1991.
Larry was a very generous, hard-working member of his church and community. As a faithful, dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of over 60 years, he served on various boards and committees, was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, organizer of the UM Army summer youth building/repair projects for elderly community members and on the building committee for the Faith Center. As a member of the OC Lions Club, he served on various committees and was always cooking/serving hot dogs and pancakes at community events. He was also a member of the Ore City Masonic Lodge, been a youth mentor with “Partners in Prevention” city of Longview and AARP. In 2007, Larry received an Honorary Diploma from New Diana High School for his recognition of hard work with the Former Student Association.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dora Lattimore; daughters, Becky Myers; Louann Orms and husband Clint; grandchildren Rita Nicholas; Clayton Myers and wife Jennifer; Matt Wheeler and wife Deanna of Rockwall; and Lauren Cavanaugh; JT Orms; and Travis Orms;10 great-grandchildren: Mattox, Gage, Morgan, Ashten, Owen, Dixie, Allison, Lilah, Quinn and Naomi; brother-in-laws, James Morgan and Bobby Morgan; and sister-in-law Dottie Morgan; David Myers and a number of other family members and close friends.
Larry’s unconditional love and devotion for Dora, Becky and Louann, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was never ending. He touched so many people through his ministry of service and his message of love and inspiration.
Honorary pallbearers are Gaston DeBerry, Floyd Livingston, Elton Hagler, Tom Minor, Tommy Ferguson and Jacob Tanner.
In lieu of flowers, friends are requested by make donations to the First United Methodist Food Pantry in honor of Larry.
Dora and family, we pray for comfort and strength for all of you. The Lord is with you in your sorrow, as He promised He would be. We will all miss Larry, a good Christian man.

I greatly admired Mr. Lattimore. He was a wonderful example and mentor to the children at Ore City Elementary. I will fondly remember his friendly outgoing nature. My heart and prayers go out to all of his family.

I was saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. A great mentor to many friends in Ore City and an icon of the community. To the family I pray that God will soon replace your sorrow with the memories and love of your lives shared together, until we all meet again in Jesus presence.

It’s been a rough few days. He was loved and absolutely cherished by so many!! Lions Club will never be the same. Sending prayers and calming thoughts to the family. Sure did love this man.
