Laura Marie Stewart was born on April 23, 1962, to Clarence Wayne and Ann Marie Douglas in Jefferson County, Missouri. She passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.

Laura devoted over 28 years to Mt. Pleasant ISD, faithfully serving in various roles, most recently as the District’s Food Service Director. She viewed her work not just as a job, but as a ministry—an opportunity to serve others with love and purpose.  A devoted follower of Jesus, Laura raised her five children to seek Him above all else. For over 47 years, she was a steadfast partner in ministry alongside her husband, Gary, teaching Bible classes and sharing her faith wherever she went.  Laura had a beautiful singing voice—”she sang like a bird,” many would say. She won numerous vocal medals in high school and used her gift to glorify God throughout her life. She also had a flair for the stage, participating in One Act Play competitions, and remained a passionate reader. True to her quirky spirit, she liked to read the beginning and end of a book before committing to the whole story. She loved science fiction, old movies, and the music of the Eagles—and proudly embraced her inner nerd.  A loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan, Laura’s real devotion was to her grandchildren. She never missed a chance to cheer them on at their games or celebrate their accomplishments. She was their biggest fan, and they were the joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Wayne and Ann Marie Douglas; father-in-law, Glen Stewart.  She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Mr. Gary Stewart; children: Martie Amox (Bruce), Katie Brown (Joey), Doug Stewart (Jessica), Erin Howell (Cory), Matt Stewart (Kaitlen); grandchildren: Logan Amox, Layla Applegate (Caleb), Emily Brown, Samuel Brown, Ryder Stewart, Rylee Stewart, Margaret Kate Stewart, Amelia Stewart, Lathan Howell, Georgia Stewart; sisters, Bea Earhart, and Leslie Yohn; mother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Stewart; sister-in-law, Kathy Baladenski and husband, Mike; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

  2. May God’s comforting spirit encircle you and provide the strength that you need to carry you through this difficult time. Laura’s kind and compassionate spirit will forever be remembered by me and my family.
