Lawrence Ray Bonnette was born September 17, 1941, to Jessie James and Susie Ann Spear Bonnette. He passed away October 10, 2026.
Jody spent many years working as a brick mason, bricking homes throughout Louisiana and Texas. His work left a lasting mark on communities across both states, one home at a time.
Jody grew up in Louisiana fishing Black Lake, where his love of fishing and the outdoors began. He later moved to the Lake O’ the Pines area, where his family owned a fish market at Camp Joy. Whether hunting in the woods or spending time on the water, Jody enjoyed the outdoor life he had known since childhood. He was especially proud of the numerous hunting dogs he raised over the years.
Music was another treasured part of Jody’s life. He came from a musical family, and singing was a natural part of who he was. When he sang, his voice sounded remarkably like George Jones, making his songs a special pleasure for those who heard him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jessie James “Tony” Bonnette Jr. and Jimmy Dale Bonnette; sister, Wanda Sue Sessions; daughter, Ramona Jean Bonnette; grandsons, Jessie Stroman and Stephen Townley; and great-granddaughter Jodi Bonnette.
He is survived by his wife, Trinida “Ann” Bonnette of White Oak; sons, Lawrence R. “Little Joe” Bonnette Jr. of Hughes Springs, Jonathan Bonnette and wife Martha of Hughes Springs, and Gregory Bonnette of Ore City; brother, Lawson Bonnette of Pittsburg; sister, Mildred “Gal Baby” Bonnette Elliott of Ore City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan “Jon Jon” Bonnette, Cande “Taco” Malonado, Cande Malonado, Juan Martinez, Joel Clinton Bonnette, and Adam Hendrix.
Everyone is invited to come celebrate Jody’s life at Jay Valley Baptist Church, 2973 Jay Dr., Longview, Texas, following the graveside service for food, fellowship, and singing.

So sorry for the loss of Jody. He was my friend and when we were teenagers I had a crush on him. He was a sweetheart.
