Graveside services for Lena Mae Abernathy, 88, of Hughes Springs will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Hughes Springs Cemetery with the Revs. Dan McGuire and Billy Crocker officiating. Mrs. Abernathy will lie in state at the funeral home Saturday afternoon and evening and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. She died May 8 at a Hughes Springs nursing home. Mrs. Abernathy was born September 1, 1919 in Hughes Springs. She was a member of Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church, and a former member of the Sesame Club, Red Radiance Garden Club and the Home Demonstration Club. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Norma and Gary Baugh of Hughes Springs; one daughter-in-law Jane Abernathy of Hughes Springs; 11 grandchildren and their spouses Rebbecca and Kyle Morgan of Hughes Springs, Robin and Fred Fierro of Round Rock, Kimberly Streams of Caldwell, Jeanette and Paul Mercer of Pittsburg, Ashley and Stephen Barnes of Hughes Springs. Brandon and April Abernathy of Austin, Nicole and Robert McAnally of Abilene, Kent and Suzanne Baugh, Anesha and Josh Turner, Jennifer and J.R. Folsom all of Hughes Springs and Clayton Brooks of Abilene; and 15 great grandchildren Jordan, Judson, Kaitlyn, Rachel, Johnathon, Zachariah, Andrew, Addison, Jacob, Ali, Gracelyn, Andrea, Kaileb, Bailey and Josh; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law Pansy McLeary of Marshall, Frances McLeary of Kokomo, IN., Evelyn Coulter of Atlanta and W.D. and Doris Abernathy of Hughes Springs. Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her husband Stacy; two sons Roger and Weldon; and one great grandson James Brooks. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist building fund.
