Pastor Lewis "D.L." Fluellen

Funeral services for Pastor Lewis “D.L.” Fluellen, age 81, of Gilmer, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City.  Rev. Fluellen will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Fluellen passed away April 16, 2024 in Gilmer, Texas.

Pastor Lewis “D.L.” Fluellen was born February 21, 1943, to the union of Efell and Lizzie Mae Fluellen.  He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church.  He later moved his membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Gilmer.

He graduated from Bruce High School in Gilmer, TX and went on to further his education at Jarvis Christian University, earning a BS degree as well as education from various other college institutions.  Pastor Fluellen worked in the public schools as a teacher at Longview ISD.

Pastor Fluellen was ordained and received his minister’s license under Pastor Huey Jones, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gilmer in 1999 and went on to pastor at Antioch Baptist Church, Pittsburg, TX and Blundus Creek Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TX.  He served as 1st Vice-Moderator of the Northeast Texas Baptist District Association under Pastor B. R. Hargest, and Chairman of Northeast Texas District Association District Board #1.  He also served as a member on the Board of Etex Telephone Cooperative Inc. in Gilmer.

He leaves to mourn his death: his lovely wife, Cynthia Fluellen; three sons, Kelvin Fluellen (Betsy) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Allen Fluellen of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Cedrick Reeves of Ore City, Texas; one daughter, Shenna Bishop (Dustin) of Longview, Texas; two grandchildren, Ayron Fluellen and Azlyn Fluellen of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzie Mae Fluellen and Efell Fluellen; one sister, Christine Summers; three brothers, Hubert A.E. Fluellen, Sterling Fluellen, and MSgt. Elmer Fluellen.
