Lewis Stanton was born June 15, 1923, the youngest son to Birdie Stanton. He grew up in the Mims Community. He joined Warlock United Methodist Church at an early age and remained a member until his death. He served in the US Army during WWII and he worked for General Foods in Houston, TX for 32 years as a Lab Technician until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas and Jurisdiction Free and accepted Masons Rocky Springs Lodge #156 for 58 years, where he obtained the status of Master Mason and 32 degree Mason and Wishful Master. He was preceded in death by his mother, one son, four brothers and one granddaughter. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Ruby; three daughters Brenda (Richard) Davis, Jacqueline Proctor and Barbara Proctor all of Houston, TX; two sons Nolan Proctor of Houston, TX and Ronald (Tina) Proctor of Huntsville, TX; seven grandchildren and four great grandsons, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He died on October 8, 2008 in a Shreveport, LA hospital. He was 85 years old. His funeral services will be on Saturday, October 11 at 10:00 AM at WRS United Methodist Church in Mims with Rev. George M. Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Mims Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. He will lie in state on Friday, October 10 at the funeral home in Hughes Springs and visitation will be from 6-8 PM.
