Funeral services for L.W. Smith, Sr., 89, of Daingerfield, will be at 2 P.M. Saturday, April 4th, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Daingerfield with the Rev. Courtney Mitchell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Reynolds Cemetery under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Smith died March 27, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Shreveport. He was born March 11, 1920 in Cason. He retired from Los Angeles County after 35 years as a maintainer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Mr. Smith is survived by six daughters and two sons-in-law Ozie L. Hollingsworth of Carson, CA, Linda D. and Richard Lopez of Compton, CA, Margaret C. Johnson of Compton, CA, Glenda F. and Bruce Collier of Inglewood CA, Janice C. Smith of Carson, CA, and Esther M. Pippins of Fontana, CA; two sons and one daughter-in-law Lawrence W. and Essie Smith Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Steve E. Smith of Cason, TX; two sisters Annie Murl Lafayette, of Cason, TX and Charlsetta Johnson of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers Richard A. Smith of Detriot, MI, Douglass MacArthur Smith of Cason, TX and Billy Alexander of Los Angeles, CA; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Essie O. Smith and one son Eddie C. Smith. A wake will be held Friday, April 3rd from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
