Born on December 1, 1928, in Cass County, Texas, Mae Don was the daughter of James Edgar and Viva Roberson Morgan. She was a fierce and determined spirit wrapped in a tiny frame, dedicated to her family and her Jesus. Mae Don attended Business School and had a gift for sewing, becoming an exceptional seamstress and quilter. She joyfully shared her craft with both family and community, making countless cherished quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. She regularly spent time with her sister piecing beautiful quilts that warmed homes and hearts for their family.
A dedicated worker, Mae Don operated a children’s clothing store in Marshall, aptly named “Tom Ann Sue” after her three beloved children. She later worked alongside her brothers at the family business, Morgan Company. Together with her husband, T.W. Dudley, Mae Don moved a number of times for his work before finally coming home to Hughes Springs.
Mae Don was a devoted sports fan, especially enjoying baseball. With daughter Ann, she cheered for the Yankees, and with daughter Susan, she rooted for the Braves, while son Tommy made sure she never missed a Dallas Cowboys game.
Mae Don was preceded in death by her husband, T.W. Dudley; daughter, Ann Chandler; grandson, Thomas Rhodes; and siblings, Kenneth and Bobbie Morgan, Frances and Frankie Berry, Marvin and Billie Jean Morgan, and sister-in-law, Ann Morgan.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Dudley and his wife, Gail; her daughter, Susan Watson and her husband, Mark; her cherished grandchildren, Charlotte Aslin and husband Buddy, Aaron Dudley, Matthew Dudley and wife Kim, and Ben Watson and wife Allison; great-grandchildren, Garrett Aslin and wife McCall, Raegan Aslin and fiancé Kristen Linares, Michele Watson, and Anna Dudley; and great-great-grandchildren, Ridge Aslin, Juliet Watson, Anniston “Annie Lou” Aslin, and Walter Watson. Mae Don is also survived by her brother, Wayne Morgan, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Focused Care Nursing in Linden and Heritage Hospice for the compassionate care they provided “Grandmother.” In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mae Don’s memory to Women of Worship at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church or the Music Ministry at First Baptist Church in Linden.

Mrs. Dudley made the dress for my senior prom in Marshall. Ann and I were close friends in grade school. Mr. Dudley, who worked near my daddy’s store, brought Ann to play when we were 5 years old, and she was the only classmate I knew in first grade. We both cried all day the first day of school but I stopped after Ann threw up. We grew apart after a few years but I will always remember those times. Mrs. Dudley was so quiet and demure but when it came time to making that prom dress, she was outstanding! I still have the dress.
