Marilyn Cheatham Bruce, age 70, of Hughes Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 8, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

Born on November 2, 1954, in Hughes Springs, Marilyn was the beloved daughter of Wilford and Leora Cheatham. She was a lifelong member of the community and a proud graduate of Hughes Springs schools. In a life rooted in devotion and love, Marilyn shared over 50 years of marriage with her husband, Jerry Bruce. Their bond was unwavering. Together, they built a wonderful life, raising three children and nurturing a home that was always open, warm, and full of laughter.

Marilyn dedicated more than 30 years to Hughes Springs ISD, working in the school cafeteria, where her kindness and daily presence became a cherished part of many students’ lives. Even after retiring, her heart for service continued. She spent her later years caring for others in need, offering not just help, but genuine compassion and dignity.

She found joy in simple pleasures like family gatherings, visits to the casino, her daily expressions of love and encouragement. Each morning, friends and family looked forward to the uplifting messages she posted on Facebook.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Leora Cheatham, and her brother, Glenn Cheatham.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Jerry Bruce; her children, Chericha Bolden and husband Darren, Montrell Bruce and wife Jennifer, and Eric Bruce and wife Cassie; seven beloved grandchildren, Brittney Bruce, Demetria Bolden, Denisha Bolden, Alex Bruce, Austin Bruce, Jayden Bruce, and Blakely Bruce; two cherished great-grandchildren, KK and KJ; and a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives were deeply touched by her presence.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marilyn Bruce will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Hughes Springs Community Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
