Memorial Services for Melvin Ray Watkins, 72, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Daingerfield Church of Christ with Norman Miller officiating. Mr. Watkins was born August 8, 1938 in Klondike and passed away Friday, September 24 in a Hughes Springs nursing home. He served two years in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany and had worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Red River. He is survived by his wife Marlene Watkins of Hughes Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law Marty and Connie Watkins of Hughes Springs and Michael and Kristi Watkins of Omaha; five brothers and three sisters-in-law James T. Watkins, Eddie Jo Watkins and Jackie and Carolyn Watkins all of Hughes Springs, Zack and Kristi Watkins of Forney and Shirrell and Donna Watkins of Marietta; two sisters and brothers-in-law Marline and Auvis Shaddix of Marietta and Barbara and Duane Higgins of Omaha; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Loretta Williams and a brother Noel Watkins. Visitation will be immediately following Memorial Services.

I never ran into him as an adult when he didn't have time to ask how things had been going and to fill me in on his family.   8. To my brother Melvin: Melvin I love you with all my heart. I know you remember the good 'ol days when me and you would always get into things – like getting Maw's snuff! And getting out behind the tree and taking a toothbrush and dipping it and swallowing and getting sick! Running the ducks in Maw's pond and mother running us out!
