Memorial services for Mr. Michael A. Smith, 78, of Daingerfield, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Michael Allen Smith was born February 26, 1948, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Marshall Allen Smith and Audrey Smith. He passed away October 9, 2026, at his home in Daingerfield.

Michael spent his youth exploring the woods of East Texas around Marietta, often with a rifle at his side. Those early years were filled with hunting and a love of the outdoors.

After graduating from Paul Pewitt High School in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent four years serving in the Far East during the Vietnam War.

Following his discharge, Michael met and married Mary Raines. They settled in Linden, where they raised their three sons. In December 1986, Mike achieved a long-awaited goal when he earned his degree from East Texas State University. He secured an accounting position with Nash Financial Services at Red River Army Depot, where he worked until his retirement.

At the urging of a coworker, Michael discovered what would become a lifelong passion, golf. As a member of both Rusty Rail and Daingerfield Country Clubs, he spent many happy hours on the course, improving his game and forming countless friendships along the way.

The only thing Michael loved more than golf was his grandchildren. He treasured time with them and took every opportunity to spoil them rotten, a role he embraced wholeheartedly.

He is survived by his brother, Joel Smith; sister, Pam Miller; three sons, Micheal Ray, Mark Allen, and Matthew Austin Smith; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
