Funeral services for Michael E. Sarge Hicks, 51, of Hughes Springs, will be at 10 AM on Monday, May 18, 2009 at South Union Baptist Church in Jenkins with Rev. Chad Thompson and Rev. Jack Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Clark Cemetery in Jenkins under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Hicks was born on December 21, 1957 in Bryan, TX and died on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at a Pittsburg hospital. He served 6 years in the US Marine Corp., 2 years in the Army and 12 years in the Coast Guard. He was a member of South Union Baptist Church in Jenkins and worked in maintenance at Hughes Springs ISD. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Jane Hicks of Daingerfield; one son and daughter-in-law Casey and Tabitha Hicks of Daingerfield; one daughter Nicole Hicks of Daingerfield; his parents Charles and Marilyn Hicks of Daingerfield; one brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Sheila Hicks of Jacksonville, TX; several nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law James L. and Mabel Spears of Jacksonville, AR; brothers-in-law Charles L. Spears of North Little Rock and James D. Spears of Jacksonville, AR. He was preceded in death by a sister Malinda Mead. Mr. Hicks will lie in state on Sunday, May 17th and the family will receive friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Hughes Springs.
