Michael "Mike" Morgan

October 29, 1940 ~ March 27, 2024

Born in: Frankston, Texas
Resided in: Hughes Springs, Texas

William Michael Morgan, aged 83, of Hughes Springs, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2024, after a life marked by service, dedication, and profound love. Born in Frankston, Texas, on October 29, 1940, Mike’s journey was one of honor, courage, and a deep commitment to the well-being of those around him.

Serving proudly in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Turner Joy, Mike was honorably discharged, having demonstrated dedication and valor. This period was foundational, imbuing him with a profound sense of duty and resilience.

Mike’s professional path led him from a successful tenure at Roadway Express to a rewarding second career as a teacher at Linden-Kildare High School, where he dedicated 15 years to nurturing young minds with patience, wisdom, and an unwavering belief in their potential.

Beyond his professional and service life, Mike’s faith was a cornerstone of his existence. As a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church of Hughes Springs, he embodied the virtues of his faith, serving his community and spreading God’s word through his work with the Gideons and his volunteer efforts in China with ELIC.

In earlier years, Mike and Sheila Celsur had four children: Steven, Trevor, Jennifer, and Matthew. The loss of Steven at an early age was a sorrow that touched the family deeply.

The heart of Mike’s world was his family. He found profound joy and companionship with Dianne Morgan, his beloved wife of 43 years. Together, they shared a love filled with joy, support, and adventures, from quiet moments at home to travels around the globe. These experiences wove a tapestry of cherished memories.

Mike is survived by Dianne; his children, Trevor Morgan and wife, Brandi, Jennifer Castor and husband, Albert,  Perry Matthew Morgan, Debra Sedransky and husband, Stuart and Johnny Seymour and wife Betty; grandchildren, Anna Goodrich and husband, Corey, Josh Scroggins, Bridget Barnes and husband, Skylar, and Nick Scroggins;   great-grandchildren, Victoria, Caleb, Christian and Sonny; sister, Pat Rigsby and husband Skip. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ovie Alvin “Piney” Morgan and Augusta Perry Morgan; son Steven Morgan; brother, Roger Morgan; and sister, Judy Thrift.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery.  There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to service time Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Gideons International, honoring Mike’s commitment to faith and education. P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090 or online at www.gideons.org/donate.

Mike Morgan leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith. His life was a testament to the power of community, the importance of education, and the infinite reach of Christ’s love—a legacy that will inspire all who knew him for generations to come.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to William Means, not only for his ministerial guidance during this time, but also for his compassionate care as a physical therapist.  His support has been a source of comfort and strength, and his role in officiating Mike’s funeral is deeply appreciated.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”  Ephesians 4:1

Guestbook

  1. I served alongside Mike for many years in the church and through the Gideons International. He was a great servant of the Lord, probably one of the most spirit minded men that I’ve ever met, and he had a heart for serving. He went to China several time as an English teacher and was able to be a witness for the Lord through that endeavor. He lived a full life that gave honor the Christ; may you rest well in eternity my brother!!
