Murray Lane Allen passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15, after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M., Sunday at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs with John Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Springs Cemetery under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Allen will lie in repose Saturday afternoon and evening and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Allen was born Oct. 5, 1935 to Joe Lane and Nora Allen of Hughes Springs, Texas. He was a 1954 graduate of Hughes Springs High School. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College in 1958 with a bachelor degree in music education. He earned his masters degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He served as band director for the Sabine, Beckville, Carthage, Mount Pleasant, and Hughes Springs school districts. After teaching he became a real estate broker in Longview. He later worked as a purchasing agent for the H.B. Zachary Company and the Texas Department of Corrections. Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ann. Mr. Allen is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law Melissa and David Baumgardner of Maude, Texas; Virginia and Javier Rincones of San Antonio, Dinah and Kenny Morgan of White Oak, Texas; four grandchildren Brett Morgan, Meredith Morgan, Anna Baumgardner and Sam Baumgardner; and one sister and brother-in-law Lola Ann and E.J. Hubacek of Big Sandy, Texas.

  2. Our hearts grieve at the news of Murray's death. He was a sweet step father and step grandfather to Ben and Ashley. We all have fond memories of our times shared together. Our prayers go out to you during this difficult time.

  3. We remember Mr.Allen, who was the High School Band Director at Carthage. Although he had already left by the time we made it up to the high school band, we DO remember him as a very nice, polite man whom we wish we had had the pleasure of being under his leadership. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss of such a kind man.

  4. sorry for your loss, WE never new mr. allen, but if he was anythink like his mom and daddy he was a good man. joe was a good friend of my father and his mom was my teacher in school.
