Nellie Virginia Mathis

Nellie Virginia Mathis was born April 14, 1928 in Marietta, Texas to Willie and Vera Myers. She passed away July 9, 2021 at her home in Hughes Springs. Ms. Mathis attended First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. She was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She loved gardening and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Morris Mathis; sisters, Julie Myers and Mary Alice Davis; brother, William Myers; and great-grandson, Tyler Alexander.
She is survived by four children, Hubert Morris Mathis, Jr. of Hughes Springs, Shirley Mathis Lowery and husband, Joe of Daingerfield. Terry Cowan and husband, Steve of Daingerfield, Jason Mathis and wife, Tammy of Ore City; twelve grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Services for Ms. Mathis will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Terri, I just saw the notice regarding your mother. I am so sorry as I know your mother was a living and driving force in your life. I remember you speaking so well of her. My mom died last year in July so I know the loss you feel. Take care. Miss you and think of you often.

My heart broke when I read the news of Ms. Nellie's passing. Then, all of a sudden I was flooded with sweet, wonderful memories.
She was a large part of my childhood and a wonderful woman. Also, you are right, a fantastic cook. I know she will be missed by all, but cherish the wonderful memories you have with her. Memories and time, that is what it takes.
