Nettie D. Bates, of Hughes Springs, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 2, 2021.  She is preceded in death by her parents, C.R. and Winona Burgen; sisters, Ithema Burgen, Martha Turner, Winnie Sutton, and Loretta Brown; daughter, Terri Blackburn; grandson, Chadd Blackburn, and sister-in-law, Mildred Burgen.  

She retired after 30 years dedicated service from Tuboscope of Hughes Springs, Texas.  She was a resident of Hughes Springs for 49 years.  She is survived by her children, Kenneth L. Pollard of Hughes Springs, TX, Donald Wayne McClung of Livingston, TX; spouse, Roy "Doc" Hawthorn of Hughes Springs, TX; brothers, Darrell Burgen of Norman, AR, and Bruce Burgen of Flowery Branch, GA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  She will be truly missed by numerous friends, family and loved ones.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.   4. Many of my best memories include Nettie. I call her my sister/friend. She was a wonderful caring person who loved her family and friends. She tried to take care of all ! I am truly missing her. There is a special place in my heart for her!!!

  6. I was so blessed to be a part of Nettie's life. She had the biggest heart and my son said I had to mention that she made the best mashed potatoes too! We will truly miss her!
