Services will be held for James Obie Walker on Monday, August 10th at 10:00 a.m. at the Hughes Springs Church of Christ. Interment will be at the Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Obie was born July 10, 1927 to Steven Ollie and Ada Belle Walker and passed from this life at his home on Thursday, August 6th, 2009 at the age of 82. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virgie Walker, his sister, Olline Flori of Hughes Springs, four children and 10 grandchildren; Donna Elrod and husband Roger of White Oak, TX, and their children Krystal Mason and husband Mike of Big Sandy, and Eric Elrod and wife Jill of White Oak; Danny Walker and wife, Jane, of Hershey, PA, and their children, Ryan and Jenni of Austin and Katie of Hershey; Bobby Walker of Elizabethtown, PA, and his two daughters Marsha and Ashley of Pasadena, MD; Becky Craig and husband, Jake of Hughes Springs and her children, Hannah Fitch and husband James of Hughes Springs, Aaron Yeager and wife Sarah of Tyler, and Sarah Yeager of Hughes Springs. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ivy and Nellie, and brothers, Raymond, Mack, Woodson, Morris, J.D. and Wylie, and by his son, James Ronald. Obie was retired from 35+ years of employment as an electrician at Lone Star Steel. He lived an active life of family and church involvement until he suffered a series of debilitating strokes and finally, succumbed to a brief battle with lymphoma. Prior to his illness, he was regularly seen flying his ultra-light airplane around the area, playing his fiddle and guitar with area music groups, and serving with his church family where he was a deacon and elder for several years. His favorite times were those he and Virgie spent with family, surrounded by loving children and grandchildren. The family will host a visitation for friends at the Reeder-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9th from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be officiated by Obies son, Danny Walker.
