Ophelia Johnson

Ophelia Johnson was born to the union of the late Wade and Lola Taylor on November 22, 1915. Mrs. Lola united with Aaron James when Ophelia was two years of age, and he raised Ophelia as his own. Ophelia attended Mount Zion School near Daingerfield. She began working for the Hospital in the Pines in the early sixties, and she was there until retirement. She united with St. James Methodist at an early age, and later united with the Wallick Chapel Christian Church. In 1935, she united with the late George Johnson in holy matrimony and to this union 11 children were born. To rejoice in her memory here on earth are three daughters Vivian (John L.) Green of Dallas, Mary (Melvin) Edmond, Patsy (Wallace) Taylor, and four sons George (Emma, deceased) Johnson, all of Daingerfield, Vernon (Mary) Johnson, Benny (Karen) Johnson, all of Cason, Rudell (Hazel) Johnson, of Pittsburg; two sisters Marie Washington, Mildred Green of Dallas; five brothers Charles (Marilyn) James, Goree (Katie) James of Oklahoma City, Ernest (Joe Vern) James, A.W. James all of Dallas and Thomas James of Midland; three sisters-in-law, Dorsey Mae Jones, Charlene Johnson, Lesie B. Johnson and one brother-in-law A.D. Johnson all of Daingerfield; 31 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by three sons James Johnson, Robert Johnson and Willie Johnson; one daughter Betty Allen; two sisters Sadelia Hood, Savanna Everett, and two brothers Homer James and Albert James.
