Payton Butler

A celebration of life for Payton Butler, 24, of Daingerfield, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs, with Bro. Michael Roberts officiating.

Payton entered this world on January 17, 2002, and throughout his life, he touched countless hearts with his sweet nature, generous spirit, and willingness to help others. His life came to an unexpected close on July 11, 2026, leaving behind many family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Payton was a giver in every sense of the word. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially to his mother, and he took great pride in helping care for his younger siblings. Family was important to Payton, and those closest to him could always depend on his love and support.

On August 2, 2015, Payton accepted Jesus and was baptized at Veal Switch Baptist Church alongside his mother. Being baptized together was a special memory and a meaningful moment they shared.

Payton graduated from Daingerfield High School in 2020, where he was an active member and officer of the FFA. He participated in forestry and enjoyed raising rabbits, several of which earned awards and recognition.

Payton was employed by Pilgrim’s, where his dedication and strong work ethic led him to become a shift lead. He and his mother worked the night shift together, creating memories and sharing a special bond that she will forever cherish. Payton worked hard for everything he had and was especially proud to have recently purchased his dream car.

In his free time, Payton enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his many friends. He was always ready for an adventure and was usually game for whatever his friends wanted to do. His easygoing personality, loyal heart, and fun-loving spirit made him a treasured friend to many.

Payton was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gay Chaffin and her husband, Bill, Leroy Fuqua and his wife, Helen, and Susan Boss; great-grandparents, Clyde and Estelle Strange; and aunt, Samantha Butler.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Shelly Butler of Daingerfield; father, Johnny Butler and fiancée, Marie Richardson, of Great Falls, Montana; siblings, Alexis Salgy, Paxton Butler, and Chase Butler; grandfather, Greg Boss; aunt and uncles, Sheila Dilbeck and husband, Will, Brian Fuqua, Bruce Fuqua, and Chris Boss; beloved cousins, T.J., Chad, Shay, Chris, Aimee, Sarah, Jamie, Jolene, Katrina, and Dakota; and a host of cherished friends and co-workers who will all miss him dearly.
