Philip passed away on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man whose quiet strength and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born in Linden, Texas, Philip spent the majority of his life in Avinger. Throughout his life, he valued hard work, family, and the simple joys of small-town living.

Philip proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army, demonstrating honor, discipline, and patriotism. After his service, he worked at the Red River Army Depot, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned the respect of his colleagues. While working there, Philip pursued higher education and earned an associate’s degree, a testament to his determination and lifelong commitment to learning. Whether serving his country or contributing through his work, Philip took pride in doing his best and leading by quiet example.

Philip had a deep appreciation for working with his hands and a lifelong passion for restoring cars and motorcycles. He could often be found outdoors, dedicating time and care to his projects. He also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in cultivating his own vegetables. An excellent cook, Philip found joy in preparing meals for his family. He treasured the companionship of his dog, Jack. Above all, Philip’s greatest joy came from spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and family, whose love and presence meant the world to him.

Philip’s greatest accomplishments were raising his two daughters and watching them grow into strong, loving women, and being a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren. He cherished the moments spent with his daughters during their childhood, sharing movie nights, taking them swimming and camping, and creating life-long memories. Many of their happiest days were spent outdoors, where Philip taught them the value of hard work and the beauty of nature. He loved gathering the family together at his parents’ home, where they shared meals lovingly prepared by his mother and enjoyed one another’s company. As his daughters grew older, Philip remained a devoted father, attending important milestones such as weddings, graduations, and family celebrations. In later years, he especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren; listening to their laughter and watching them enjoy life brought him immense happiness. Those moments filled with laughter, conversation, and love remained among Philip’s most cherished memories throughout his life.

The mother of Philip’s children, Marsha Miller, stood by his side, providing care and support as needed over the past several years. He had a deeply caring heart and continued to show love and thoughtfulness toward the mother and grandmother of his children and grandchildren. Together, they shared cherished memories that will never be forgotten.

Philip was the youngest of his siblings and shared a deep bond with his brothers, whom he loved dearly. He often fondly recounted stories of their childhood together. Even in the final days of his life, his brothers remained by his side, providing care and support when he was no longer able to care for himself. They ensured he received the attention he needed, accompanying him to the hospital and managing details so he would not have to worry. Philip’s daughters are especially grateful for the love and support his brothers showed him throughout his life, a testament to the strong family bonds he cherished.

Philip was preceded in death by his father, Vinous Ray Stroman; his mother, Vera Lee Stroman; and his brother, Ray Stroman.

Philip is survived by his daughters, Vera Turney and husband Marcus of Longview, Texas, and Amy Snyder and husband Blake of Texarkana, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Langston Turney, Cohen Turney, Prescott Turney, Jackson Snyder, and Natalee Snyder. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Marsha Miller, and by his three brothers, David Stroman, Billy Stroman, and Sammy Stroman. He has many nieces and nephews. Philip will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who helped care for Philip during his illness. Special thanks go to his brothers David, Billy, and Sammy Stroman, whose constant presence, compassion, and support meant so much to Philip and his daughters. The family also wishes to express their sincere appreciation to his friend Bobby Banks and the dedicated staff at Longview ContinueCare Hospital for the kindness, attentive care, and respect they provided throughout Philip’s time there.
