Services for Reubene Roy Newby, 94, will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Reeder Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Henry Emens, Chaplain of The Springs Nursing Home, will officiate, and burial will be at The Hughes Springs Cemetery. Born October 21, 1913, near Hughes Springs to Samuel Cullen and Annie Aletha O-Dell Newby, he married Geneva Dalby in 1935 when he was working in the East Texas oil field. He later became a farmer, then worked for Brown & Root in the early days of Lone Star Steel. His primary career began in the early 1950's as he began building homes. In his later years, he enjoyed riding the countryside to view and remember the many homes that he had built in the area. Geneva, his wife for 71 years 8 months, died last February. Also, preceding him in death were his parents, Sam and Annie Newby; four brothers: Bunyan, Nolan, Morris, and Cullen; and two sisters, Eva Lee Welch and Agnes Rhea Ball. Survivors include his only child, Shari Nelson and husband Jerry Nelson of Tyler; one grandson, Scott Nelson and wife Susan of Hughes Springs; one granddaughter, Neisha Nelson Hootman and husband Joe of Austin; great grandchildren: Samuel, Susannah, Sarah, and Sophia Hootman, Shea Lynn Nelson, and Stefanie and Samantha Smith. Pallbearers will be: Scott Nelson Neisha Nelson Hootman Ted Welch David Beard Charles Page Cotton Cook The family would like to thank the staff of The Springs Nursing Home for their compassionate care during the past three years. Visitation will be Friday evening 6:30-8:00 at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.
