Richard “Rich/Boogie” Damon Thomas, age 52, of Linden, Texas, was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He moved with his young son, Brandon, to Atlanta, Texas to care for his ailing parents in 2008. He was a quiet gentle giant who would do anything he could to help you, unless you were perceived as a threat to his loved ones. Then he became a fierce protector. While being the primary caregiver for his mother, Richard raised his son as a single father while working full time at different jobs including Cooper Tire, Brower Electric and Novatron and most recently was a lead at the NFI warehouse in DeSoto, Texas. He was known in the neighborhood for his outdoor decorations for the holidays. He loved to decorate the yard and the house in a big way and celebrated the 4th of July with a show that brought out the whole neighborhood. He loved to go bowling, cruising and gambling at the casinos or taking trips to see historic landmarks. He was a big fan of the 49ers until they brought the Arizona Cardinals to town, then that became his favorite team. He loved Joe Namath and got to meet him when he was a child. His Mom was working as a nurse at a local hospital when she brought Richard to meet Joe who gave him his most prized possession, a signed football. His biggest hobby of late was playing games on his phone. Richard loved spending time with the family, playing games, cooking out on the grill and making awesome chicken enchiladas. He also baked specialty items with his wife, Kathy. He liked to show off his treats at work and then have to prove he made them at home versus bought them at a store. He loved to participate in healthy heated debates which he rarely lost, at least in his eyes…and was quick to put a laugh back in the air afterwards so the mood did not get ruined. He was an avid lover of Star Wars and Anime’. His favorite Anime’ character was Monkey De Luffy, others were Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and Naruto.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Farmer, and his first wife, Betty Berry. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Kathy Thomas of Linden, Texas, one son Brandon Thomas of Atlanta, Texas, stepsons, Travis L. Cason II of Canon City, Colorado, Cory Cason of Linden, Texas, James Metcalf and wife, Tiffany, of Linden, Texas, his father, Lucius “Papa” Thomas and his wife, Debby, of Atlanta, Texas, sister, Bridget Bell and husband Jesse of Mesa, Arizona, and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, two great-grandchildren, friends, and other family.

“For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.”
This passage reflects the idea that life and death are both under God’s care and sovereignty.
