Services for Mr. Rodney Smith, age 76, of Linden, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Dan McGuire officiating, and under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

Rodney Smith passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Longview, Texas. Born on October 20, 1948, in Hugo, Oklahoma, Rodney was the beloved son of Edward Lee Smith and Margaret Ann Capers Smith.

A master craftsman, Rodney dedicated his career to serving as an outside Electrical Salesman. He was also a Master Electrician, a testament to his skilled hands and keen problem-solving mind. His passion for service extended beyond his profession, as he proudly volunteered for many years with the Linden Volunteer Fire Department, embodying a spirit of selflessness and care for his community.

Rodney had a sharp mind and an enduring love for simple pleasures. He enjoyed games like Solitaire and Rummikub and spent countless hours “tinkering” with projects—remodeling everything, finding beauty in what others might call disarray, as disorganization was his unique form of order. Through it all, his greatest joy was his family, whom he loved deeply and guided with wisdom and encouragement. Rodney taught his sons the importance of hard work, doing it right the first time, cleaning up your mess, and always reminding them to finish what they started.

Mr. Smith is lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 49 years, Kim Smith; his sons, Ducer Smith and wife Lindsey, Nick Smith and wife Brandi; and his cherished grandchildren, Brody, Tyler, Avery, and Sofia. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma Layva and Rhonda Hinds; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, which he thought of as his real brothers and sisters: Craig Henry and Kyle Henry, Karen Fromberg and Katressa May; and many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family members. His “new family” at Hawkins Creek Assisted Living held a special place in his heart, and the family extends their deepest gratitude for the care and compassion shown to Rodney in his final days.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Ann Smith, and his brother, Eddie Wayne Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to honor Rodney’s memory through contributions to Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church Youth, South Union Missionary Baptist Youth, or the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.

Rodney’s legacy of love, determination, and joyful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
