There will be a time of visitation and viewing for the family and friends of Mr. Scottie D. Lanier, age 80, of Daingerfield, Texas, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Scottie Dewayne Lanier passed away on June 28, 2025. Born March 4, 1945, in Jenkins, Texas, he was the son of M.L. and Dorothy Lanier.

Scottie had a life filled with service, music, and kindness. He attended Kilgore College, where he played in the band, and later proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Corpsman during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he continued his education at Paris Junior College and earned his degree in nursing.

A dedicated and compassionate registered nurse, Scottie touched countless lives through his work at David Granberry Hospital in Morris County, Titus Regional Hospital, and Atlanta Memorial Hospital. He was well-loved by his colleagues and patients alike, known for both his skill and his warm, caring nature.

Scottie was also a gifted musician, playing several instruments including the piano, clarinet, and even the bagpipes. His creativity didn’t stop there. He built beautiful birdhouses and handmade yard signs, and he found joy in knitting toboggans, which he generously gave to family and friends. He also loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, LaJuan Barton, Marlin E. “Shot” Lanier, and Genevia Modisette.

Scottie is survived by his brother, J.C. Lanier and his wife Sandy; and a host of nieces, nephews.

    • Candle 4So sorry about Scottie passing.Worked with him in Atlanta for 10 years on night shift.He was always making things for all the nurses..He gave us all big cement geese and clothes he made for the geese.He also gave me a quilt his Mom made when I built my house.I still have the quilt.I know his family and friends will miss him..RIP Scottie
