Services for Shirley Lewis, 78 of Omaha, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Reeder-Davis Chapel under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.
Shirley Jean Jones Lewis was born November 5, 1943 to Dewitt Jones and Zadie Jones and passed away February 7, 2022. She received her formal education at J.J. Rhodes, Daingerfield Texas.
Shirley had a heart of gold and loved her siblings and family. She greeted everyone with laughter and a smile. She offered so much of herself to help people and she never asked for anything in return. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt.
Shirley Jones married the love of her life, Arthur Lee Lewis II and to this union two children were born. She worked as a teacher’s aide and then became the first black woman to work at Lone Star Steel as a secretary. She later worked 10 years with Walmart before retiring and she continued to take care of her father and brother.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: daughter, Shelby Lewis and son, Arthur Lee Lewis III, both of Naples, Texas. She loved her children very much and you wouldn’t see one without the other. She is also survived by, sister, Bennie Dickerson, of Naples, Texas; brother, Willie Jones; sisters-in-law, Grace Lewis and Carolyn Jones; one aunt Bessie Fay King; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Lewis II; mother, Zadie Jones; father, Dewitt Jones; two brothers, Larry and James Jones; sister, Dorris Ann Jones Bryant; sister-in-law, Ruby Lynn Horn; and two brothers-in-law, O. L. Lewis and William Charles “Dub C” Bryant, Sr.
