Sybil Laverne Arnold

sybil arnold

Sybil Laverne Green Arnold, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, went to her eternal heavenly home, at the age of 90, on Friday, January 26, 2018, in her hometown of Linden, Texas.  She was born December 25, 1927, and was preceded in death by her husband, O.R. “Dick” Arnold, her father, Bill “Big Daddy” Green, her mother, Oneta “Nanny” Green, and two brothers, Troy and Atwell Dean Green.

Sybil spent many years doing exactly what she loved. First, enthusiastically teaching History to the young students of Linden-Kildare CISD and secondly, after becoming a young widow, following her passion and traveling the world seeing the sights and experiencing the cultures of the places she once studied and taught.

Family was most important to Sybil above all else.  Her three wonderful children gave her five amazing grandchildren, who she lovingly referred to as “The Grands”. The Grands gave her eight fabulous great- grandchildren, “The Greats”. Although all wall space and every possible area was filled with pictures of her family, Sybil was her happiest when all of her babies were under her roof eating a meal she had prepared and sharing her famous sweet potato pie and peanut butter cookies.

Sybil was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linden and the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.  She loved attending the monthly XYZ fellowship and hosting Sunday School parties in her home.

Sybil will be forever cherished by her family: Her children, Vicki and Tommy Kessler of Linden, Texas, Dicki and Ric Hasselbaum of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rex and Martha Arnold of Atlanta, Texas. Her grandchildren, Stephanie and Reno Moore of Houston, Texas, Josh and Courtney Kessler of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, Tiffani and John Edney of Atlanta, Georgia, Caleb Arnold and Randa of Arlington, Texas, and Ben and Tracie Arnold of Linden, Texas. Her great-grandchildren Madalyn and Mykala Moore of Houston, Texas, Bailey and Isabella Kessler of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, Samantha and Madelyn Edney of Atlanta, Georgia, Kenlee Arnold of Arlington, Texas, Christian Arnold and Chase and Cade Bynum of Linden, Texas.

A celebration service will be held at First Baptist Church, Linden, on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.

The family will welcome friends at the Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden on Monday evening, January 29, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
