Funeral services for Thomas Darrell Rhodes, 30, of Diagonal, Iowa, formerly of Hughes Springs, will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs with Rev. Larry Trevino officiating. Interment will be at Hughes Springs Cemetery in Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Rhodes was born August 18, 1979 in Linden, Texas, to Susan Watson and Ricky Rhodes and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at his home. Thomas graduated from Hughes Springs, Texas High School in 1997. He enjoyed music and was active in the band and choir and enjoyed stirring up the chorus teacher. After high school, Thomas started working in the oil fields but would later switch to truck driving. He drove for Mueller & Sons Trucking in Atlantic, Iowa. Thomas left trucking to be at home and had worked for Longfellow Drilling in Clearfield, Iowa. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his pickup and loved playing with his kids. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Tom Winford Dudley and maternal grandmother Jean Rhodes. Survivors include his wife Shelly Rhodes of Diagonal, Iowa; his children Michele Rhodes of Diagonal, Iowa, MaKaylee Rhodes of Longview, Texas, Jacob Garrett of Avinger, Texas, and Anna Marie Rhodes of Linden, Texas; his mother and step-father Susan & Mark Watson of Hughes Springs, Texas; father and step-mother Ricky & Jewel Rhodes of Center, Texas; brothers Ben Watson of Tyler, Texas and Ricky Lynn Rhodes of Center, Texas; maternal grandmother Mae Don Dudley of Hughes Springs, Texas; paternal grandfather Darrell Rhodes of Center, Texas; father & mother-in-law Scott & Kathy Young and brother-in-law Terry Young, all of Diagonal, Iowa; other relatives and friends. Viewing will be on Tuesday, February 2nd and the family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM at the funeral home in Hughes Springs.

  4. I was one of Thomas' teachers at HSHS and am saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age. I pray that the years that he had were full of happiness and that he was surrounded by loving family.

  5. Our family has known Thomas since he was three. We fondly remember him saying, "Hi. I'm Thomas. What's your name?" We'll never forget how he always called our cat to come to him. Our love and prayers will continue for Thomas' family and friends.
