HUGHES SPRINGS Funeral services for Thomas Earl Strickland, 73, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00P.M., Friday, February 15, 2008 at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church near Hughes Springs with Bro. Ricky Vestal and Bro. Larry Neeley officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Strickland died Tuesday, February 12 in a Linden hospital. He was born August 28, 1934 in Hughes Springs. He was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes Springs, a U.S. Army veteran and an A&M graduate with a master's degree from East Texas State University. He was the former mayor of Hughes Springs, former member and president of HSISD school board. He was the former owner of McMillan Chevrolet, a DECA teacher with Hughes Springs and Daingerfield schools, he ran a taxi service for Kansas City Southern crews in three states and was a founder of S&S Automotive. He is survived by his wife, Thula Beth of Hughes Springs; one son, Shannon Strickland (Lisa) of Hughes Springs; one daughter Stephanie (Mike) Huff of Paris, TX and eight grandchildren. As a man goes thru his life he will experence many things, have many adventures, maybe more than one love, but outside of immediate family he is lucky to have one true friend, that there is no reservation and no wrong is too great for discussion.
