Funeral services for Tommie Jo Simpson, of Avinger, will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes Springs with Chaplin Don Ross and Rev. Butch Shipp officiating. Burial to follow at Veal Switch Cemetery in Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mrs. Simpson was born on October 30, 1925 to Thomas and Jessie Moss and passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at her residence in Avinger, Tx. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and had owned the Dairy King in Daingerfield, Tx. Survivors include one son Dennis Simpson of Avinger; three daughters Charlotte Gossett, Rita Jan McCleskey and Nina Simpson of Avinger; one brother in law Leon Swanson of Mt. Pleasant; one sister in law Lorene Moss of Glenwood, AR; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey Simpson; four sisters Della Garner, Velma Elmore, Faye Simpson and Lucille Swanson; two brothers Monroe Moss and Cecil Moss.. Mrs. Simpson will lie in state on Monday, November 8, 2010 and the family will receive friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Hughes Springs.

  1. I called Hazel Phipps Bohannan and told her about her first cousin Tommie Jo. She is praying for the family. Those cousins used to walk from Kensing to Pattonville for slumber parties. They were very close as children and that is the time Mom remembered.
