Funeral services for Verzelle Russell, 73, of Hughes Springs will be 2 PM, Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Hughes Springs Church of Christ with Gary Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mrs. Russell was born in Hughes Springs, TX on December 24, 1936 to Lewis Leon Haywood and Mildred Hooton Haywood and passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Russell was a member of Hughes Springs Church of Christ. She was very active in her church. She was employed for 55 years with First National Bank in Hughes Springs. She worked until the day she died. She loved her family. Her grandchildren were very special to her. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Sherry Russell of Hughes Springs; one daughter Cathy Davis of Dallas; one granddaughter Shawna Russell of Hughes Springs; two grandsons Rustin Russell and Ryan Russell both of Hughes Springs; one sister and brother-in-law Glenda and Alvin Walker of Daingerfield; two brothers and one sister-in-law Weldon and Gloria Haywood of Pittsburg, TX and Larry Haywood of Mt. Pleasant; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law John T Hump and Donna Russell of Hughes Springs; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Russell and her parents. Mrs. Russell will lie in state on Saturday, August 7th and the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm at the funeral home in Hughes Springs. Online condolences can be made to www.reeder-davis.com.

  5. Aunt Verzelle will be missed by so many. She was a one of a kind, sweet, loving lady. Her family was her world…I am praying for her children and grand-children and sending my deepest sympathies. I know Uncle Ralph is so happy to be united with his bride again, I take comfort in that!

  6. Daily ConversationsI never met Verzelle, but had conversations with her almost on a daily basis. She was always so very professional and when I was sometimes tardy in getting the information she needed she was always kind and understanding. She was a joy to deal with. Her voice will be missed by all at Cass County Title. Some knew her but most just knew her voice. Maye God Bless her family and know that she blessed lives.

  9. I will certainly miss your mom in more ways than one. She always sat right behind us in church and I would always ask her, if she didn't ask me, "Did you get your nap this afternoon?" when we would go to church on Sunday nights. And of course, I will miss her so much at the bank, working with her. She was a fine lady!
