July 11, 1931 – May 27, 2021

Violet Allene Thornburg Stanford was born on July 11, 1931 to Orval Thornburg Sr. and Alma Priest Thornburg in White Deer, Texas and left this world to enter into her heavenly home on May 27, 2021 where she was welcome home by, her Lord and Savior and many love ones upon her arrival.  She was the seventh of eight children. Violet was a member First Baptist Church of Linden, Texas since June of 1957 where she faithfully served her Savior for as long as her health allowed.  She often described herself to family and friends as a simple farm girl, growing up on a farm where wheat, barley, cattle and pigs were raised.  Her stories included milking the cows in freezing weather, gathering eggs, driving the tractor at harvest time and helping her brother, Leroy slop the hogs.  Violet graduated from White Deer High School in the spring of 1949 and continued her education at Waylon Baptist University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1953. While she was in college, she was the editor of the yearbook for 2 years and worked in the cafeteria to pay her way through school.  After Graduation in 1953, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee with her mentor from Waylon Baptist University Mama Kay Pilot, to work as Mama Kay Pilots secretary of the recreational department of the Baptist Sunday School Board.  Violet remained at the Baptist Sunday School Board until she met and fell in love with the love of her life Dan M. Stanford Sr.  Violet and Dan were married on May 25, 1957 at First Baptist Church of Nashville Tennessee, shortly after Dan brought his bride home to Linden, Texas where they raised three children in their 50-year marriage.  Violet had three passions in her life her family, teaching and politics.  She began her teaching career in the fall of 1957 at Bloomburg ISD, later teaching in McCloud ISD and finishing her career in 1991 at Dangerfield ISD where she taught for 26 year of her 34-year teaching career.  Violet work tirelessly for the Cass County Democratic party for over 25 years along side her husband serving the people of Cass County and the Cass County Retired Teachers Association where was pivotal in starting the scholarship program which has help many Cass County students further their educational through this scholarship  but her heart was always focused on her children and grandchildren.  You could find her in the stands for Linden-Kildare Pep Rally’s, FFA Banquets and Ag Auctions, Band Concerts, Awards Ceremonies and many more of her grandchildren’s activities. She loved being a grandmother most of all.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dan M Stanford Sr, and her daughter Danelle Allene Stanford Beall Vaughn.  Her parents and Orval Thornburg Sr and Alma Priest Thornburg and all seven brothers and sisters.

Violet is survived by two sons, Dan M. Stanford Jr (Danny) and wife Melissa and Roy Simpson Stanford of Linden, Texas.  Three granddaughters, Dr. Annella E.
