Viona Lee Beene, 88, of Linden passed away Monday, February 8, 2021.  Mrs. Beene was born January 29, 1933 in Kahoka, MO to Everett L. Bash and Mildred M. Blum Bash.  Viona was a faithful member of the Linden United Methodist Church, a volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary, an Avon representative, past president of the National Secretary Association, visited the Nursing Home weekly, visited the shut-ins, and she retired from the Corp of Engineers as a Civil Engineer. 

She is survived by her children, Gary Hicks and wife, Monica, Michael Hicks and wife, Susan, and Cynthia Hicks Mattei; sister, Marcine Leighty; five grandchildren, Martha, Jeff, Samantha, Stephanie, Raven; nine great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Maci, Vance, Carly, Zayne, Destin, Kelsey, Lilith and Owen; stepsons, Eddie Beene and wife Paula, and Billy Jack Beene; step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessie Beene, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Mildred Bash; husband, Billy Beene; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Hicks, Jr. and Lois, and son-in-law, Lawrence (Larry) Mattei.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Linden United Methodist Church with Pastor Kelly Krone and Pastor Michael Bedevian officiating.  Burial to follow in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

There will be a time of visitation from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning at the funeral home.

  1. My condolences to the family. Miss Viona was a joy to volunteer with for Linden Hospital Auxiliary. She was very generous to the LUMC Food Pantry volunteers by bring donuts to us each month. She will be missed. May God's arms be wrapped around you during this time.

  4. Mrs. Viona was such a sweet lady and I always tried to visit with her for a bit whenever she came by the bank when she was in Opelousas to see Cindy. She was an amazing woman that made a good life for herself and her family. She and Cindy mailed a falling apart, barely holding together Halloween bag/card back and forth to each other but kept that sweet tradition going! Be thankful that God was able to lend her to you all for so many years!
