LINDEN, TX Funeral services for W.A. Watson, Jr., will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Linden with Bros. Don Phelps and Jackie Stanfield officiating. Interment will be in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home, Inc. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Watson was born November 10, 1922 at the Concord Community in Cass County, Texas to Allen and Vida Lou Harris Watson. He died October 4, 2010 in Linden, Texas. He graduated from Linden High School and enjoyed playing sports. He married his high school sweetheart, Wilda Jane Newland, on March 7, 1946. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he worked for the City of Houston as a bus driver and then for Lone Star Gas Company. Returning to Linden, he was elected District Clerk of Cass County and served the county for 36 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Linden and American Legion. He is survived by a son, William Reagan Watson of Linden; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Michael Jansen of Linden; a brother-in-law, Bud Jones of Dallas; four grandchildren, Mark Watson Jansen and wife, Heidi, Melanie Wood and husband, Brad, Thomas Reagan Watson and wife, Sarah, and Troy Allen Watson; five great grandchildren, Abigail and William Jansen, Jansen and Channing Wood, Addison Blair Watson; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, Ed, Royce, and Orville. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Linden, Linden Cemetery Association or Cave Springs Cemetery Association.

He was a dear friend to my grandmother, Stella, prior to her passing in 1994, and I will NEVER forget Mr. Watson! I loved him like he was my own grandpa! My,what patience that must have required! Another fond memory of my youth was your family taking me to the Cotton Bowl for the first time. For a kid 12 yrs. old what a thrill!
