Barbara Ann Comer Stewart, born on September 15, 1938, passed away on September 9, 2024, just days before her 86th birthday. Born to D.C. and Lillie Bell Wilkins Comer, Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for her family. A natural caretaker, she found joy in nurturing others, especially children. She babysat from her home and worked in the church nursery for many years, touching countless lives with her loving and generous spirit.

Barbara was a member of Avinger United Methodist Church and cherished time spent with her church family. She supported her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors, attending sporting events and cheering them on with pride. Known for her incredible cooking, she brought loved ones together with her meals. When she wasn’t taking care of others, Barbara enjoyed fishing and riding out to the pasture to see the cows, taking comfort in the simple beauty of nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Johnson Taylor Dunn and Joe Stewart; her brother, Bobby Joe Comer; and her sisters, Sissy Dickson, Jeanette Harris, and Betty Lou Carter.

Barbara is survived by her loving children: Larry Dunn and wife Debbie, Renee Colbert and husband Derrick, Angel Johns and husband Randy, Patty Kelly and husband Neal, and Pam Bates. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Corey Neal, Misty Weese, Dustin Dunn, Rocco Colbert, Britney Kanayo, Gunnar Smith, and Sawyer Johns, along with a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; her brother Earl Wayne Comer and wife Betty; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Fernita Bolden; her home health worker, Chelsey Jenkins, whom she babysat as a child; her therapist, William Means; Avinger EMS; her special friends who faithfully checked on her; and the wonderful staff at Davita Dialysis

Barbara’s legacy of love, care, and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

  1. Candle 5Barbara was instrumental in my children’s lives as so much more than a babysitter. I was blessed to have her. She was also my friend, confidant and gave me good advice. Rest in peace Barbara. ❀️

  2. Barbara was one of the kindest people you you could know. She loved her family dearly especially those grands. She and I loved our shopping trips to Dillards that was pretty often but as her health declined we didn’t get to do that very often but I did visit with her weekly. Rest in Peace my dear friend and you will be missed.

  3. I have very fond mermories of hanging out with Renee at the Stewart’s house in my young teenage years. Jo and Barbara always made me feel loved. When I think of Barbara, I always see her in her kitchen with a smile on her face where we had good conversations, laughter, great sandwiches and Shasta to drink. She was a smart, kind and a wonderful lady that cared so much for others, and she was always so good to me. I loved her very much! My deepest sympathies. May Barbara rest in peace.

  4. Candle 2Dear Angel and family,
You have my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of this great lady! I’ve never known a more supportive Mom than she appeared to be for you in all your amazing endeavors and accomplishments during your young years. Sadly, I don’t believe I ever knew your siblings or Barbara’s other close relatives. With prayers for you and the entire loving family.
