LINDEN Service for Howard "Blackie" W. Sheffield, 75, of Linden will be Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church of Linden with Bro. Jackie Stanfield and Bro. Charles Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM. Mr. Sheffield was born January 11, 1932 in Linden and passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his home. On January 20, 1952 he married Bertha Carroll in Linden. He was an industrial electrician having worked for Lone Star Steel Co. and Friedman Industries; he also owned several businesses in the area; was an avid bass fisherman; loved to play dominos; was a member of the Linden High School Class of '49 and a member of First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Sheffield of Linden; a son, Bill Sheffield, of Linden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Buddy Erwin and Donna and Brian Hays, all of Linden; one brother and sisterin-law, Robert and Debbie Sheffield of Linden; two sisters and one brotherin-law, Myra and Bob Daniel of Rockdale and Joyce Hampton of Naples; a sisterin-law, Peggy Sheffield of Linden. Grandchildren and their spouses include Shayne Erwin, Tracie and Kyle Bynum, and Ashley Sheffield all of Linden; Clint and Jamie Hays of Palestine; Krista Hays of San Marcos; Angie and Chad Perry of Little Rock, AR; and an uncle, Rutland Morriss of Myra, La. Also, four great grandchildren, Chase and Cade Bynum; Mason Lott; and Caylee Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herchel and Buelah Morriss Sheffield and a brother, E. H. Sheffield.

  2. I'm very sorry we couldn't come by to visit. We are going to be away for the week-end. Howard was a dear friend and fellow fisherman who was known for his integrity and friendliness. I know that he is with the Lord and we can know that we will see each other again. Our prayers are with you,Bertha,and the rest of the family. Prayerfully, Sam and Lee Ann Hamilton.

    Years ago my parents made the decision that when their time came they wanted Reeder Davis to handle their burial services, So as hard as it is to lose your parents their time to go did come and when it did, We relied on Reeder Davis to help our family through the arrangements that needed to be made and all I can say is their commitment, compassion and their understanding made such a difficult process much easier. Our funeral director Amy, from our first meeting to our last was so kind, She shared in our laughter of funny memories and she shared in our tears seeing our grief. My sister suddenly passed away a month after my dad and again, Kris and Amy were there to help us and we were so grateful. Kris, Thank you for the care you gave to us and for being so kind and thoughtful. I will never forget everything that all of you did for my family .

    Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. in Linden and Chris were there for me and my family when Keith passed away. Chris is so caring and thoughtful and was able to help me make it through the entire process of caring for Keith and my family until the final burial. He made the journey of death so much easier by his respect for our needs and his compassion for our pain and sorrow. I have known his staff for a long time and they also helped lighten our sorrow by their outpouring of love and compassion. Reeder-Davis also took care of my precious mom when she passed away three years after Keith. I still hug Chris and thank him whenever I can for helping me through losing loved ones.
